Facility access and rates

PACT supports both industrial and academic R&D. Access rates are designed to maximise utilisation of the facilities by users, whilst at the same time ensuring that PACT is sustainable and can continue to provide support and expand services in the future. Four main levels of access rates operate for external access to PACT facilities:

  1. Full cost (fEC) rate available to UK Universities and research organisations and for publicly funded research and collaborative research projects with industry, provided results will be published in the open literature (within State Aid rules)
    • SRF rate (reduced fEC rate) available to the PACT partners operating the facilities
    • A reduced fEC cost is available to UKCCSRC projects
    • EU rate: Collaborator rate when PACT Operator is a partner
    • EU rate: Subcontract rate PACT operator is not a partner
  2. Full commercial rate available for large industry contract research
  3. Discount commercial rates available to SMEs (within State Aid rules)

Intermediate rates are possible depending on the type of project and its role in supporting current or future operations and services provided by PACT.

Access rates are reviewed on annual basis and for each period depend on the specific facilities being accessed, experimental and operational requirements, out of hours and 24hr operation, and overall level of utilisation of the facilities. Specific rates are therefore calculated for each individual research programme. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and access costs.

*All universities need to cover their contribution to publicly funded projects (the difference between full costs and grant); accordingly for EPSRC projects and many publicly funded collaborative projects the costs for access to the facility by the University which operates the given PACT facility (if it is a project partner) is at SRF rate.
